Note: AREDS2 findings suggested that: Reducing zinc to a daily dose of 25mg made minimal difference in effectiveness to the original daily dose of 80mg of zinc. However there was a trend toward superior macular protection with the higher level of zinc, but it was not statistically significant. The side effect profile was also identical for 25 and 80 mg of zinc.
